Taylor Ackley is a scholar, composer and performer of American Roots music. He holds a Master’s Degree and a PhD in Composition as well as a Master’s Degree in Ethnomusicology from Stony Brook University. After four years as an Assistant Professor of Music at Brandeis University, he is now based in Northwestern Montana where he serves as the Program Director at North Valley Music School.
Taylor is an active professional musician. As a singer and multi-instrumentalist, he has performed at festivals and concert halls around the United States. He has also released four albums of original compositions and arrangements of traditional repertoire. As a scholar, he has presented papers at the International Country Music Conference, the International Conference of the Rural Sociological Society and the Society for Ethnomusicology. He is also in demand as a guest lecturer at colleges and public institutions. His writing has been published by the MIT Press, Equinox Publishing and Popular Music History.
