North Valley Music School is the only non-profit, community music school in Montana. Located in beautiful Whitefish, we annually serve over 700 students of all ages through private lessons, early childhood music, performing ensembles, group classes, workshops, master classes, and summer camps. We also bring music to over 1,500 community members each year with our faculty and student concerts and community performances. In 2009-2010 we are celebrating our 12th year of enriching our community through musical education and performance. Our faculty of 14 offers private lessons in Piano, Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass, Electric Bass, Voice, Guitar, Electric Guitar, Mandolin, Banjo, Harp, and Flute. Scholarships are available for all ages. NVMS relies on donations and grants from individuals, businesses and foundations to keep our school running and provide an affordable, quality music education for all (see Support NVMS). NVMS is housed in a historic Whitefish building at 432 Spokane Avenue (Hwy 93), convenient to downtown and schools. We are a member of the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts.

NVMS Montana All-State Students Named

August 21, 2010

Congratulations to NVMS Students selected to the Montana All- State Orchestra! North Valley Music School proudly announces and congratulates the following Whitefish students named to the Montana All-State Orchestra for 2010: Connor Gray (violin 1) freshman, Rebecca Holdhusen (violin 2) freshman, Breanna Barnes (viola) junior, and Maya Gordon (cello) freshman. Under the direction of Jenanne Solberg, NVMS and Whitefish School Faculty member, these students represent 100% of the orchestra students from Whitefish that chose to work through the audition material and process. This is an exceptional achievement for our students and their teacher! In addition, Will Holdhusen is an alternate on percussion for the All-State Band and Caleb Knox was named to the All-State Choir selection. Also included from Whitefish are Jessica Sagen, All-State Band, Triana Bouillon, Natali Kragh, Cody Volkman and Bobby Hensley, All-State Choir. As Jenanne Solberg noted, it is very unusual for freshmen to be selected; the audition materials are extremely difficult as is the literature the students must now prepare. Breanna Barnes has previously been selected and is the senior member of the group this year. All-State students in all three groups (band, orchestra and choir) will gather in Missoula on October 22 and 23rd where they will rehearse under the direction of three internationally recognized guest conductors. The All-State groups meet during the time that music teachers of all levels and disciplines gather for the annual fall MMEA convention. The All-State concert will be the culmination of the two-day event, to be held at the University Theatre on Friday, October 22 @ 7:00 pm. Full information about the guest conductors, clinicians and convention sessions, registration will be available in the fall edition of the Cadenza magazine, published by the Montana Music Educators’ Association.
